In this two hour class you will learn the basics of sewing with our standard and heavy duty sewing machines. You will also learn about the available tools and resources in the textiles area of Maker Community, and have the opportunity to try out using the sewing machines with a simple DIY sewing project.

In this two hour class you will learn the basics of sewing with our standard and heavy duty sewing machines. You will also learn about the available tools and resources in the textiles area of Maker Community, and have the opportunity to try out using the sewing machines with a simple DIY sewing project.
This induction will include:
- Introduction to the textiles space at Maker Community
- Introduction to basic sewing terminology and stitches
- How to thread and set up a sewing machine
- How to safely use a sewing machine
- Trying out your skills with some basic sewing
- Support with troubleshooting
After completing this class you will be able to safely and confidently use the standard and heavy duty sewing machines at Maker Community. Please note this session doesn’t include the use of Embroidery Machines and Overlockers, but if there’s time afterwards, you’re welcome to ask questions about those.
Attendance is free for those with any membership that grants them access to use the makerspace.
