Beginner Furniture Course for Shes, Gays and Theys

8-week course across consecutive Sunday dates: 

13.9, 20.9, 27.9, 4.10, 11.10, 18.10, 25.10 and 1.11

From 11am-5pm each Sunday

Cost: 

$990 per person

Participants must be age 18 or over.

Description:

This hands-on beginner course is designed for women and queer folk who want to build confidence in designing and making furniture using woodworking tools and machinery. Over eight weeks, you’ll learn essential skills including designing and planning, measuring, cutting, drilling, sanding, joinery, and finishing techniques. Each participant will design and build their own record stand, side table, or small shelf, gaining practical knowledge you can use for future furniture projects. No experience needed.

All students will receive a complimentary consult with the course teacher prior to commencing to assist with planning their project.

Materials: 

• Undressed, salvaged, Vic Ash will be supplied free of charge.
• Course participants will learn how to restore salvaged timber
• Those wishing to use a different species of timber should supply their own

About your teacher:
Genevieve Douglas-Byrnes is a Melbourne-based designer situated at the intersection of functionality and creativity. As a queer designer, they infuses their work with a unique perspective, challenging conventional notions of form and utility. Genevieve’s creative practice is primarily based around functional object design and installation. Gen enjoys passing on their skills to others who are keen to learn the many arts of making.
